In the end of the chapter Branden finds out about the mineral calcite. Please watch the video about minerals. Please write why knowing about minerals will help Branden with his rock collecting. Remember it should be a complete, detail thought written into a paragraph. > If you enjoyed the video and would like to earn the rock hound badge please research a specific rock ,mineral or explain the rock cycle in a presentation to share (teach) your fellow classmates. After research is complete discuss with teachers(Smalley/Smit) when and how you will present this information.

In the video I learned that a fluorite mineral is used in fluoride toothpaste. I also learned diamond is the hardest mineral. One other thing I learned is that talc a mineral is used in baby powder. That is what I learned in the video.

Thank you for posting this I never knew so many of these wonderful facts about minerals. I learned that there is 5 criteria for minerals : 1. must be a solid under normal conditions on Earth 2. not man-made, natural 3. not living or made from living things 4. must have a fixed chemical formula, made of specific elements 5 the atoms must make up the substance and must be arranged in a orderly structure. Thats what i learned from this video.

Knowing more about minerals will help Brendan to be able to classify his rocks into different categories. He will be able to determine whether an item found is a mineral or simply a rock. Based on this video, he could understand that there are 5 criteria used in determining whether an object is a mineral. The five criteria are solid, inorganic, naturally occurring, fixed chemical formula, and specific atomic arrangement. One item that is under debate as to whether or not it is a mineral is ice.

There are so many minerals out there waiting to be discovered! The ones that we know about know is important now.I learned that the hardest rock on earth is the diamond as to its formation.I also discovered that minerals have many uses.

This video helped me understand more about minerals. I find it interesting that ice can't be explained as a mineral, but also can't be explained as something else.

Wow! I never knew so about minerals. What I thought was interesting was the whole ice debut. I never knew the way the atoms are arranged could affect the smell.

I think that knowing minerals will help Brendan because he will be able to classify rocks. He will also be able to understand a lot about science better. After he learns about minerals he will be able to ask more questions.

OMG so many minerals! I thought there was only like 100 I didn't know there was over 2000! I also didn't know that diamond was on edges of saws.

Wow! This videos helped me classify the minerals like the fluoride,I didn't know it was in toothpaste, yuck! Talc is used for baby powder. I think its important for Brendan to learn more about rocks because he might be able to become a scientist and ask more advanced questions about rocks.

This would help Brendan a lot with his mineral collecting. Brendan probably knows a lot about minerals already, but the Criteria for what a mineral is is most likely new to Brendan. This also helped me. I didn't even know minerals had to be solids!

If Brendan watched this video, he will learn about different minerals. He would learn that there are 5 criteria to be a mineral. In the book, Brendan judges a mineral by its color. The rock collector said that you shouldn't judge a mineral by its color because it may mislead you. It is the same as judging a book by its cover. So Brendan must understand the minerals that make up a rock.

Knowing about minerals will help Brendan with his rock collecting because minerals are the building blocks of rocks. A mineral has 5 criteria. It has to be a solid, a substance naturally occurring on Earth, it must be inorganic, it must have a fixed chemical formula, and it must have a specific atomic arrangement. All of the physical properties like color, sheen, and texture result from the minerals internal arrangement of atoms. If Brendan knows this, he can figure out why rocks look the way they do.

By knowing about minerals will help Brendan in his rock collection because he will know what the rocks are made of. If it is a mineral it will have these 5 criteria.1. It should be solid 2. It should be naturally occurring on earth. ( Not man-made) 3. It will be inorganic, not non-living or made by a living things. 4. It will have a fixed chemical formula. 5. The atoms that make the mineral has a certain structure. If he knows the names or other things of these minerals he could search we're they are online and try digging for the mineral he could find a rock too.

I learned the 5 criteria for finding out if something is a mineral or not. For example quarts is a mineral because it is a solid, naturally occurring, inorganic, has a fixed chemical formula, and has a specific atomic arrangement. Liquid mercury isn't a mineral because, well it's not a solid. Something that surprised me was how many minerals there were. I never knew that there were so many! I'm so glad that I watched this video because know know so much more about minerals!

I think it will help brendan when is collecting. I say so because he might not pick up a rock knowing it's a mineral and it might be gold inside or something. He would have never known.

I learned in this video that minerals are the building blocks of rocks. Therefore, if Brandon watches this video and learns about minerals it would help him learn more about his rock collection. I want to know more if ice is a mineral.

Knowing about minerals can help Brendan with his rock collecting because he can know what kind of mineral it is and if it is rare. I learned that the mineral fluoride is used in most tooth pastes. I also learned that diamond is the hardest mineral. It can even cut glass.

Brendan will learn a lot about minerals and what they look like. I did not know that I was brushing my teeth with a mineral. I think it is amazing that a diamond and graphite are both made from carbon.

Watching this video made me understand that if it doesnt follow five criterias then it is not a mineral. Branden should know this criteria to have his Rock Collection. Minerals should be solid, inorganic, naturally occuring, with fixed chemical formula and specific structure of atoms. Minerals are used for so many things.

Great video. It will help Brendan with rock collecting because minerals make up rocks so with certain minerals you make certain rocks. Also understanding the 5 criteria will help him. The 5 criteria is made up of solid, naturally occurring, inorganic, fixed chemical formula, and specific atom arrangement.
